Panerai Luminor Marina 44mm PAM01313
Panerai, under the direction of Jean-Marc Pontroué, has been busy refocusing its collection around four fundamental pillars; the elegant Due, the vintage Radiomir, the robust Submersible and the essential Luminor. Along with this segmentation, the brand has also started to clean up the collections and will continue in this path to bring more visibility and harmony inside the sub-collections. And this starts with the relaunch of the Luminor Marina, which will be the main theme of 2020 for the brand.
Simpler, functional and modern, this is the new style for the Marina. Straightforward colours – black, white and blue – as well as the iconic sandwich dial. When it was developed in the early 1950s, the name “Luminor” indicated the presence of a new luminous material designed to replace the Radiomir used in WWII watches. According to Panerai, the new Luminor Marina follows this development with the integration of “high-performance Super-LumiNova”… What does that mean? Well, to be more honest, the brand has applied white SLN to the sandwich dial and the hands, which glow green in the dark. Not a revolution per se… but in terms of design, this means that the brand goes back to making Luminor Marina watches with a contemporary look and no more “fauxtina” all over. Back to basics.
The Panerai Luminor Marina 44mm PAM01313 is housed in the classic stainless steel case with brushed surfaces and a polished bezel – a large watch at 44mm in diameter and 15.65mm in height. A hallmark of the Luminor collection, the crown is protected by the Trademark Safety Lock device, which together with the screwed caseback, will guarantee a 300m water-resistance. The watch is worn on a blue alligator strap and an additional blue rubber strap is also included.
The dial of the PAM01313 displays a nice, deep blue, sunray-bushed colour, which contrasts with the white SLN to give the watch a modern, sporty look. The layout is based on the brand’s classics, with carved numerals and indexes, baton hands and a small seconds at 9 o’clock. As a modern watch, it features a date at 3 o’clock.
To power the PAM01313, Panerai relies on its well-known automatic calibre P.9010, developed and manufactured in-house. Thanks to a twin-barrel architecture the movement can store up to 72 hours of power reserve when fully wound. A practical feature of this calibre is the quick setting of the hour hand, which can be moved in steps of one hour forwards or backwards, while simultaneously adjusting the date – especially practical when travelling.
The Panerai Luminor Marina 44mm PAM01313 will be a permanent member of the collection (not limited) and will be priced at EUR 7,700.
