According to Business News: Wempe Stops Selling Nomos After 20 Years | SJX Watches, Wempe has announced that they will no longer sell Nomos watches due to the watch company's current marketing/distribution approach. Increasingly, it seems that watch brands are embracing the "direct-to-consumer" and/or online sales models. Although the Wempe/Nomos situation does not directly impact me (as I do not foresee a Nomos purchase in my future), I am concerned with the broader move to online sales. By cutting out the retailer/AD, it becomes harder and harder for customers to actually see watches in the metal. As noted in another recent thread in the Public Forum (https://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/dre...n-4800835.html) seeing and touching a watch in-person can completely change how you view it (for better or for worse). I know that on-line is the future of retail broadly, but for a purchase as expensive, emotional, and personal as a watch, I for one would miss one thing that the AD provides that simply cannot be replicated online.... the ability to actually handle the watch. Certainly, until direct/online watch retailers allows for free and easy returns (something few currently offer but almost every other online retail sector does offer), there will always be an important role for the brick-and-mortar watch retailer. I just hope that enough of them survive in this time of retail change. Every time we save 5% or 10% by buying online after trying on a watch at the local AD, we are hastening the demise of our ability to "try before we buy."
