L.Leroy, Tissot and Lois Moinet are the winners of the 2013 International Chronometry Contest in the mechanical watch categories of Tourbillon and Classic watches.
There were 38 competing watches presented by 17 companies (including 14 Swiss, two French and one German). They were submitted on May 30 to endure three sets of measurements carried out at the Besançon Observatory, France, at the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute in Biel, as well as undergoing severe magnetic fields and physical shocks at the Haute Ecole Arc in Le Locle. The results were announced last week.
To win, the watches must meet the international "chronometer" standard three times in a row, whilst being exposed to intense shocks and magnetic fields after the second series of tests and all this without any intermediate adjustment allowed.
In the Tourbillon category, for which there were 7 participants in all, L. Leroy won the prize (794 points out of 1,000), while most of the others did not stand up to the ordeal of shocks and magnetism.
In the Classic category, 20 watches competed, and 12 of them passed all three tests. The winners were Tissot for the first 2 places (878 and 850 points out of 1,000) and Lois Moinet SA (728 points out of 1,000).
