Nomos has extended its neomatik collection, launched last fall at WatchTime New York, with the introduction of the Nomos Tetra neomatik this week at Baselworld 2016. This newest version of the Tetra, Nomos’s square-cased men’s watch, is the first to be equipped with the brand’s in-house self-winding movement, Caliber DUW 3001.
The Nomos Tetra neomatik is slightly sportier than its manual-winding predecessor, with a 33-mm, bipartite square case made of stainless steel, along with an updated dial (Arabic numerals at the 5-minute marks; a round, rather than square, small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock with a red lacquered seconds hand). At only 7.2 mm in thickness, however, it retains the elegant appeal of the original Tetra, as well as its Horween genuine Shell Cordovan strap, remborded and fitted with a Nomos-branded buckle clasp. Two dials are available for the Tetra neomatik, one in silvered white with cyan blue highlights (pictured above) and the other in deep blue with green highlights (below). In contrast to the neomatik 1st edition, the neomatick logo on the dials is in gold rather than neon-colored. Both cases are fitted with sapphire crystals on both sides, and are water-resistant to 30 meters.
Caliber DUW 3001 (the initials stand for Deutsche Uhrenwerke), which is visible through the clear caseback of the Tetra neomatik, is one of the thinnest self-winding movements on the market, measuring only 3.2 mm in height. Among its attributes are the Nomos swing system with tempered blue balance spring; a bidirectional winding rotor; a stop-seconds mechanism; and a traditional Glashütte three-quarter mainplate. The surfaces of the movement are rhodium-plated and decorated with Glashütte ribbing and perlage. Screws are blued in the traditional manner. The mainspring barrel holds a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.
The Nomos Tetra neomatik will be available at retailers in Spring 2016.
